Thailand Post now lets online merchants enter product identifier (PID) codes on its DPost Inter website while preparing shipping labels for EU-bound parcels, the Bangkok Post reported.
The requirement covers products sold through cross-border online transactions valued at €150 or less and applies across the EU’s 27 member states. Customs authorities use the product identifier (PID) to identify, verify and trace goods and assess whether they meet the bloc’s safety and regulatory standards.
On DPost Inter, senders enter product descriptions and customs declaration information while preparing a shipping label. The information is passed on for international shipping and customs processing, the report said. The service is aimed at online merchants, small and medium-sized enterprises and other Thai exporters sending goods to Europe.
Thailand Post lists three PID categories. Merchant PIDs are assigned by sellers, online retailers or sales platforms. Non-Standardised Manufacturer PIDs include a maker’s model, part or product number. Standardised Manufacturer PIDs are internationally recognized identifiers generally printed below a product barcode.
Senders should provide an authentic, accurate identifier tied to the individual product; each entry can be up to 35 characters. Thailand Post President Dhanant Subhadrabandhu said the service is intended to ease exporters’ workload, improve product data and lower the risk of customs-clearance problems, the Bangkok Post reported. He said Thailand Post is continuing to help Thai businesses adapt to changing requirements for EU shipments.
