‘The 100’ season 4’s episode 1, titled “Echoes,” is set to follow Clarke as she and her allies are forced to deal with the aftermath of the battle with A.L.I.E. from the previous season. Clarke and Bellamy are set to work together to protect everyone from the threat of an impending new apocalypse.
The synopsis for season 4’s premiere episode posted on TV Guide reads, “In the fourth-season premiere, Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and her friends struggle with how to proceed after the fate of the world is revealed.”
The much-anticipated season opener is set to pick up right after the events of season 3. Promotional material released prior to the post-apocalyptic science-fiction drama television series’ scheduled return on The CW hinted that Earth will become inhabitable within six months following the threat of nuclear meltdown.
It seems that the upcoming episode will feature Clarke and her allies as they are forced to deal with the threat of a second apocalypse after battling it out with A.L.I.E. (Erica Cerra). A.L.I.E. was a powerful AI that controlled the City of Light. However, season 3’s finale saw Clarke defeating A.L.I.E. once and for all but not without potentially deadly consequences.
Promotional photographs posted on TV Fanatic showed the series’ core characters looking undeniably disturbed as they face the consequences of the aftermath. In one of the images, Clarke, Bellamy (Bob Morley), Abby (Paige Turco), and Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) are still in Polis. It seems that Clarke and Bellamy’s relationship may grow stronger as they work together to save everyone.
Executive producer Jason Rothenberg explained Clarke and Bellamy’s relationship dynamics in the incoming season during an interview with Screener. Rothenberg revealed, “I think that Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke -- when they're together is when good things happen, when they're playing from the same playbook. They came back together in Episode 11 last season I believe, and that's really when things started going right again for the group, ultimately leading to them defeating A.L.I.E.”
He continued, “This season we see them where they left off last season. They're a team, and they are trying to do what's right for their people. Clarke more than Bellamy, perhaps, is determined to save everybody, and Bellamy is determined to help her do that. As long as the two of them are together and fighting for the right reasons, I think the world has a chance.”
Meanwhile, the show’s cast and crew took to Twitter to reveal the final day of shooting for season 4 last January 19. Co-producer Justine Juel Gillmer tweeted, Last day of shooting for #THE100SEASON4. Thanks to our fabulous cast and crew. You're amazing. Every single one of you.”
‘The 100’ season 4’s episode 1, titled “Echoes,” is set to air on The CW on February 1, 2017. It was directed by Dean White and written for the small screen by Jason Rothenberg. It will be followed by episode 2, titled "Heavy Lies the Crown," scheduled for February 8.
