On Monday night, Season 13 of “The Bachelorette” premiered on ABC. But fans were more focused on one particular contestant: Luke, the “Whaboom” guy.
The Washington Post said the 39 year-old contestant from California managed to get into the nerves of his fellow contestants and viewers, thanks to his antics. In his introductory video, Lucas attempted to explain what his occupation means, and said, “The word ‘whaboom’ grew from the word ‘boom’ — but it has a lot more energy behind it. Whaboom! Whaboom! Whaboom!”
He also introduced himself from inside the iconic limo using a megaphone, Buzzfeed noted, and said, "Good evening! Stepping out of the limo next, standing at 6 feet tall, weighing in at a whopping 195 pounds, pure lean muscle mass. He also has one testicle larger than the other testicle, which, of course, is completely normal...your future husband."
The Hollywood Reporter thinks that Lucas is being painted as this season’s villain, which kind of suited him if he continues to go around crashing private chats between Rachel and the other contestants. However, Rachel appears to be taken by him, and even went on commending him for simple “standing out.”
Fans become more incensed when “Whaboom” was favored over Blake K, who was first to be eliminated. However, eagle-eyed fans noted that the former US Marine might have asked the show’s permission to be let go because his grandfather got sick.
As for Rachel’s reasons to keep “Whaboom” in the running, she told E!, "I said I wanted to be entertained the first night, and that he did! I think people are going to think that [producers asked her to keep Lucas]. [But] I am so opinionated and direct, they couldn't make me do anything."
