The tables have turned in “The Blacklist” season 6. Raymond Reddington (James Spader) is going to prison after decades of evading the law to carry out his crimes. Will Liz (Megan Boone) help his fake dad reclaim his freedom?
The show will not dilly-dally once “The Blacklist” season 6 is released early next year. NBC finally revealed its official trailer and confirmed an exciting twist — the law enforcement finally catches up with Reddington and he will be thrown in federal prison soon.
Fans should not worry, though. Red seems to not lose his cool even inside a maximum security prison in “The Blacklist” season 6. At one point, he even taunts the judge who calls him the devil. Red retaliates with a laugh, “Shouldn’t judges, at least, pretend to be impartial?”
However, Reddington will still be quite shaken and puzzled how someone outsmarted him “The Blacklist” season 6. He then calls on Liz who later pays him a visit in prison. Red orders her “daughter” to find out whoever “betrayed” him.
This implies that Red may actually be a little bit rattled by this turn of events. “The Blacklist” season 6 executive producer John Eisendrath told Entertainment Weekly, “He’ll wonder going forward, ‘How did this happen? Did it happen on accident or with someone who is trying to get me,” Eisendrath added.
Meanwhile, it is also hard to rule out Liz in the possible perpetrators of Reddington’s arrest. “The Blacklist” season 6 will pick up from season 5’s huge revelation that Red is an impostor and Liz’s real father is possibly dead. The fake Red does not know this yet, which is advantageous for Liz. But the tricky part is, Liz still has to pretend and convince Red they are still on the same team.
“Not only is she trying desperately to unravel the truth of who this man is and why he entered her life and why he chose her, but she’s also having to try to be present in a very caring way, because he doesn’t know that she knows the truth,” showrunner Joe Bokenkamp told EW.
“The Blacklist” season 6 will premiere with a two-part episode with the first segment airing on Thursday, Jan. 3, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. It will continue on the show’s regular timeslot every Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
