“The Crown” season 3 filming has started and the cast is currently going around the United Kingdom to get to their "authentic" filming sets. While they hop from one place to another, Netflix is promoting the series by sharing photos on social media.
Previously, they posted a picture of Olivia Colman to give fans a glimpse of “The Crown” season 3’s new Queen Elizabeth II. The actress replaced Claire Foy, who acted the part in seasons 1 and 2.
In addition to Colman, former “Harry Potter” star Helena Bonham Carter was also cast in “The Crown” season 3. She will be acting as Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret. Netflix recently revealed Helena’s look as the princess and it was beautiful.
On July 17, Netflix uploaded a photo of the actress on Twitter. The snap allowed fans to view a sneak peek of Princess Margaret, and the character really fits Helena Bonham Carter.
Bonham Carter said that when she was offered the role, she was completely terrified but she is grateful. “I think also because the first two seasons were such a success, we have the onus of inheriting the responsibility of doing justice to all these genuinely famous people, and then on top of it, inheriting them from this previous generation of actors who’ve done such good jobs,” she told Variety.
On the other hand, Tobias Menzies will take the role of Queen Elizabeth’s husband, Prince Philip. As per Deadline, he will be replacing Matt Smith, who was in the first two seasons. Jason Watkins will also be in “The Crown” season 3 and he will be British Prime Minister Harold Wilson in the drama.
“The Crown” season 3 is slated to premiere in 2019 but there is no definite date yet as of now. It will focus on Princess Margaret’s life, especially her marriage to Antony Armstrong Jones, the Earl of Snowdon, who will be played by Ben Daniels.
Finally, Helena Bonham Carter is taking the role of Princess Margaret from Vanessa Kirby, while Jason Watkins replaced John Lithgow. It was revealed that the changes in the cast are necessary as the characters aged. Showrunner Peter Morgan added that they are planning to replace the actors every two seasons.
