‘The Dark Tower’ exclusive footage is scheduled to be released at the upcoming EW PopFest celebration to be held at the Reef in Los Angeles on October.
According to Collider, new footage of Arcel’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling series of novels is scheduled to be released at the upcoming Entertainment Weekly PopFest. Although no specific release date has been announced, the two-day EW PopFest celebration in Los Angeles is set to take place from October 29-30, 2016.
News of the first-look was confirmed on the magazine’s EW PopFest program highlights that also included a scheduled 20th anniversary screening of ‘Scream’. It is unclear whether the footage referred to would be a full trailer or only a specific clip.
Idris Elba is set to star as the lead protagonist Roland Deschain, a man descended from a long line of gunslingers heralded as the peacekeepers and diplomats of Roland’s society. Elba’s character is also the last human descendant of Arthur Eld, the ancient king of the All-World and the greatest hero if Mid-World.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Elba teased some details on his character. He said, “When we meet Roland he’s a bit lost… He’s been walking around for a long time, so he definitely feels like a man who’s… coiled.” It was reported that it was Roland’s mission to capture the Man in Black before the latter brings down the Tower, the nexus of universes.
Matthew McConaughey will portray Roland’s archnemesis and one of the series’ main antagonists The Man in Black. In the original comic books, The Man in Black often appeared under different names but he is best known as Randal Flagg. McConaughey’s villain is an all-powerful sorcerer with the abilities of necromancy and prophecy.
Other members of the cast include Katheryn Winnick, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbey Lee, Claudia Kim, Nicholas Hamilton, Fran Kranz, Tom Taylor, Alex McGregor, and Michael Barbieri among others.
‘The Dark Tower’ is an upcoming adventure-horror and fantasy film directed by Nikolaj Arcel. It is based on the series of novels of the same name authored by Stephen King. It is produced by Akiva Goldsman, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Stephen King with G. Mac Brown, Erica Huggins, and Jeff Pinkner executive producing.
It is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.
