‘The Exorcist’ season 1’s episode 7, entitled “Chapter Seven: Father of Lies", will follow Tomas as he struggles with lie after lie after Casey’s possession is publicized. Meanwhile, producers Rupert Wyatt and Jeremy Slater explained the series’ connection with the original 1973 film directed by William Friedkin.
Following Angela’s (Geena Davis) massive reveal in the previous episodes, the family Rance will have to deal with the aftermath of Casey’s (Hannah Kasulka) kidnapping, according to International Business Times. Meanwhile, Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera) will also find himself entangled in lies especially since Casey’s possession has gone public. In addition, Marcus (Ben Daniels) will ask help from Mother Bernadette to help him with his latest problem.
In the preceding episode, entitled "Chapter Six: Star of the Morning", the Friars of Ascension were revealed to be devil worshippers and supported by the seemingly devout wealthy woman Maria (Kirsten Fitzgerald). It was also revealed that the Friars of Ascension wanted Father Tomas to join their evil cult. By the end of the episode, cult members are seen asking the devil to use their body as home.
Meanwhile, it turned out that Angela was really Regan MacNeil and was keeping her identity a secret. Executive producers Rupert Wyatt and Jeremy Slater revealed how the series tied in with the original 1973 film starring Linda Blair as Regan. Fox’s television series is set 40 years after the events of the film and uses references such as Mike Oldfield composition “Tubular Bells.”
According to Variety, Slater insisted, “It was important to let everyone know that this is a continuation of an existing story.” He added, “This time around, evil has grander ambitions than targeting an eight-year-old girl in Georgetown… You need the propulsive twists and turns, and we have plenty of big plot twists, but at the end of the day, it’s always going to be about a family in trouble and the priests brought in to help them.”
The producers, together with the cast of the new series, revealed that they intended to keep the grounded and realistic tone from the original film.
Meanwhile, Davis admitted, “I believe there is evil in the world and we have certainly seen instances of it historically, and currently… I think everyone is capable of an extreme range of behaviors, depending on what you’re exposed to and what your character can resist.”
‘The Exorcist’ season 1’s episode 7, entitled “Chapter Seven: Father of Lies", is scheduled to premiere on Fox on November 11, 2016.
