“The Flash” season 5 is coming very soon so in the recent trailer released by The CW for its lineup of superhero series, it shows glimpses of Barry Allen in his Flash suit. He appears for a few seconds only but everyone can see that his character is coming back with a new costume.
The new promo is aptly titled “Suit Up” since most of the featured shows have already been confirmed to have new ensembles for their respective hero characters. As for “The Flash” season 5, the change in Barry’s suit was revealed last month after someone leaked some snaps of it.
Following the leak, fans and regular viewers alike immediately got into a debate mood as they dropped comments on the Speedster’s new suit. Eventually, it ignited a controversy in which “The Flash” season 5 lead actor got himself involved.
The leaked images show a getup that looks like it was made from a different material. It is thinner than the original leather that was used before and the ensemble has a mask that does not cover Grant Gustin’s chin.
Aside from criticizing the upgraded suit, some went on to state their opinion on Gustin’s body. As per People, one fan wrote, “Yikes the test photo suit doesn’t look good. I actually prefer the chin strap.” While others commented, “Grant Gustin doesn’t have a superhero chin or physique.”
The actor did not let this pass. A day after the photos were revealed, Gustin clapped back at the body shamers by posting a long message on Instagram. He definitely did not find it cool when those who saw the leaked costume criticized his new look in “The Flash” season 5.
"So here's the thing about this bulls**t photo leak," the actor wrote. “It's a cool suit. There's a terrible photo that I was unaware was being taken, much less being posted.”
He also clarified that the suit they saw was not finished yet and work on it was ongoing. He also vented his frustrations over the criticisms of his physique.
“Some things need work and they will be worked on. We'll get there," he said. "As far as the body shaming. That's what pisses me off."
At any rate, the completed costume has been revealed and it fits Grant very well. Here’s a closer look at the Speedster’s outfit in the upcoming fifth season.
“The Flash” season 5 is set to premiere on Oct. 9. Watch the "Suit Up" promo below:
