The remake of “The Last of Us Part 1” has been making headlines recently for reasons that will unlikely sit well with Naughty Dog developers. Gameplay clips and other aspects of the game have appeared in numerous leaks, leading to some fans worrying about its quality.
“The Last of Us Part 1” has been advertised as a “remake” of the franchise’s debut title, and it typically means players can expect more than just fidelity and performance upgrades. A remake also usually offers gameplay improvements and new features that were not available in the original version.
Xbox Era’s Nick Baker (@Shpeshal_Nick) shared footage of “The Last of Us Part 1” combat, which gave some fans the impression that the mechanics do not possess significant improvements from the original game. Others also commented that the animations did not meet their expectations, so many wondered if the leaked footage came from an earlier build of the game.

Baker, however, later said that the leaked videos came from the “most up to date” version of the game. The leaker said he is not certain if that means the videos represent the final version of “The Last of Us Part 1” or how old these videos are. But it is worth noting that Naughty Dog announced earlier this month that the game had gone gold.
The leaks also include “The Last of Us Part 1” display settings, showing the game can perform with variable refresh rates if the player’s TV supports it. The leaked screenshots also show two Rendering Modes, where players can prioritize fidelity (4K at 40FPS) or performance (dynamic 4K at 60FPS).

Meanwhile, Baker also shared an image of the supposed controller layout for “The Last of Us Part 1.” But fans quickly notice it does not show an option to dodge or go prone, which might suggest Joel would not be able to do these movements in the remake.
Overall, reactions to the leaks have been mixed, and others remain excited about the release of “The Last of Us Part 1.” But fans are still advised to take these videos and images with a grain of salt as the remake’s final version could be different from what was shown in the leaks. The remake will be released on Sept. 2 for $70.
