As the second of 2019 trudges forward, the rumor claiming that the “The Last of Us Part 2” will come out in February 2020 is solidifying further. The bad news is that Naughty Dog still hasn’t confirmed anything leaving the rumor to remain, well, a rumor.
However, “The Last of Us Part 2” could be revealed at the next Sony’s State of Play. But this, too, doesn’t have any date as of this writing.
So where is everything standing at the moment? With “Death Stranding” coming out in November, it’s highly unlikely that “The Last of Us Part 2” will drop later in the year.
The Last of Us Part 2 might be featured in the next State of Play
February is still the most viable date for Naughty Dog and Sony on account that there is no PlayStation title coming out that month, Screen Rant reported. It also neatly paves the path for the PlayStation 5, carrying the PS4 just far enough for it to pass the torch to its successor. So what are the possibilities of the “The Last of Us Part 2” being featured in the next State of Play?
Well, given that Sony didn’t attend this year’s E3, Naughty Dog needs a big event that would create a buzz for the sequel. Not that “The Last of Us Part 2” needs any more buzz, mind you. But it doesn’t hurt to market it more to expand its reach further. This year’s State of Play took place on March 25 and May 9, a six-week gap between both events, Express reported.
Obviously, that pattern wasn’t followed by Sony making predictions for the next State of Play difficult. However, there is an upcoming event that can feature “The Last of Us Part 2.” The event in question is Gamescom.
The Last of Us Part 2 making an appearance on Gamescom still a possibility
Although Sony didn’t confirm it’d be present at the event, it didn’t announce its absence either. With Sony present at Gamescom last year, the possibility is still on the table. The gathering is slated to take place on August 21 to 25. If we’re lucky, Naughty Dog might confirm the release date of “The Last of Us Part 2” at the event, and perhaps provide more in-depth information about the sequel.
To conclude, there are two dates that are important to keep track. August due to the Gamescom, and February on account of rumors claiming that “The Last of Us Part 2” will come out this month. Hopefully, Naughty Dog announces something as the community is itching to get their hands on the title.
