“The Last of Us Part 2” is one of the most anticipated titles coming out in 2020. Game journalist and reliable leaker Jason Schreier said that Naughty Dog originally planned the title to be released this year.
However, due to “Death Stranding” hitting the shelves on Nov. 8, “The Last Of Us Part 2” got pushed back. While Sony and Naughty Dog remains reticent about the release date of the sequel, Schreier predicts it might come out in February.
Voice actress Ashley Johnson also fanned this prediction when she mentioned – albeit incompletely – the month February as the release date of “The Last of Us Part 2.” It’s believed that Sony and Naughty Dog will announce the game’s release in the next State of Play.
The Last of Us Part 2 release date announcement might occur on Outbreak Day
When that will be is anyone’s guess at the moment, but we’re putting our money in September. September is a significant month for the franchise since this was when Outbreak Day happened. Announcing “The Last of Us Part 2” during this time will undoubtedly resonate deeply to a lot of fans, especially those who are hardcore followers of the franchise.
This is doubly true if the next State of Play offers a brand new gameplay demo for the sequel, showcasing other mechanics of the game and provide additional details about its story. And speaking of which, Johnson said that “The Last Of Us Part 2” will be an emotional journey for gamers as she herself had a hard time filming some of the scenes in the sequel.
The Last of Us Part 2 will be an emotional ride
“This particular game, we’ve shot stuff that emotionally, mentally, and physically I’ve never done in my life. And I’ve come home with the bruises and just, like, physically exhausted from it,” Johnson admitted. Given how the first game was handled and the evolution of storytelling in the video game medium, “The Last of Us Part 2” could deliver yet another riveting plotline for players that may topple the narrative of the first entry.
It’s for this reason – and several others – that the sequel is one of the most popular titles coming out in 2020. As for the development of “The Last of Us Part 2,” there’s still some work to be done as revealed by co-game director Anthony Newman. Newman tweeted in May that the team is in need of talented individuals who can help iron out the sequel, placing heavy emphasis on the Melee Animation position for those interested in joining the team.
