‘The OA’ season 2 may continue the story of Prairie as hinted by creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. The creators talked about the science-fiction series’ potential return on Netflix although no announcement has been made as of the present.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Marling and Batmanglij talked about the new science-fiction and fantasy web television series’ potential return on Netflix. Batmanglij addressed the ambiguity of season 1’s ending saying, “I think this is a story that's carefully planned. I don't think any of us have thought about a second season right now because we're exhausted, but yeah, when we started, Brit and I spent two or three years conceiving of a whole world before we brought it to anybody, before it ever left our bedrooms. Things are going on there.”
Marling added, “I think from the very beginning when we were on our own daydreaming a story, we definitely thought how can we construct something that, many seasons out, has a satisfying end? So there is an end and there is an answer to every riddle and nothing is done to just be sound and fury going nowhere. It all goes somewhere.”
She added, “And as to whether or not we get to tell that, I certainly hope that we do. There is a place that season two already begins in our minds and a place in which it ends.”
The series stars Marling as Prairie Johnson, a young blind woman who returns to her hometown after going missing for seven years. Upon her return, her eyesight is restored. Prairie calls herself the OA but refuses to tell the FBI and her adoptive parents any information about her disappearance and instead assembles a team of five local residents to whom she tells her secrets to.
‘The OA’ earned generally favorable reviews upon its debut on Netflix last December 16. It also earned some criticism, with many comparing the show to another Netflix science-fiction series, ‘Stranger Things.’
According to Express, Marling and Batmanglij revealed their plans of continuing Prarie’s story although it remains unclear whether the series will be renewed for a second season run.
Marling teased, "That would be so much fun. We spent a good three years just cobbling the mathematics of the labyrinth of a mind-bender that could go for many, many hours… I would think that's one of the exciting things about where we leave the ending, is that in some ways, it resolved in a satisfying sense, especially with the boys, but it also leaves something open."
She added, "It's exciting to lave that gap between one season and another and see how people feel about it. If we get to be so lucky as to get to another round, I would be so excited."
‘The OA’ is a mystery drama web television series with elements of science-fiction, fantasy, and the supernatural. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
