While Electronic Arts has not announced any “The Sims 5” release date yet or if the title is even under development, fans of the franchise are still hopeful that the game will be arriving soon. This hope has been rekindled once more when EA announced that it’s looking for playtesters for up upcoming game.
Fans were pleasantly surprised by a message posted on EA’s official Twitter account. “Hey Simmers! EA Playtesting is looking for Sims fans to participate in their Playtest events!” the tweet reads. “Playtesters get to play unreleased games before anyone else, give their feedback, and receive great rewards for doing it! #EAPlaytesting.”
What got fans giddy with excitement is the mention of unreleased games in Electronic Arts’ announcement. While it was not specifically mentioned what title it might be, some players are betting that it must be “The Sims 5” that everyone seems to be waiting for.
This possibility is even bolstered by another seemingly unrelated post by Maxis, a division of Electronic Arts. According to Segment Next, the company has announced a number of job postings on its official careers website, which could be interesting for those waiting for hints of the elusive “The Sims 5.”
“Maxis is currently seeking a build software engineer for not only The Sims 4 but also unannounced projects,” Maxis stated on the website. The responsibilities for the position include implementing and maintaining new automation workflows.
Another job post is about an art director. What interesting is that, among the position’s various responsibilities, the candidate will also “collaborate and develop a cohesive aesthetic vision for our bold, new project.”
It seems that both EA and Maxis have a very big project or projects coming up. One can’t help but think that they might be referring to the upcoming “The Sims 5” when they mentioned “unreleased games,” “unannounced projects,” and “bold, new project.”
It must be noted that Maxis is the developer of The Sims franchise. Thus, it’s not too far off to assume that they must be working on the franchise’s next installment, “The Sims 5.”
Maxis basically worked on three major franchises; “The Sims,” “SimCity,” and “Spore.” The city builder game "SimCity" has not been releasing any titles for a long time while the “Spore” has been shelved for more than a decade.
This means that its only active franchise is “The Sims,” a highly successful franchise that sold almost 200 million copies worldwide. But the franchise’s latest title, “The Sims 4,” is already turning six years old this year as it was released back in 2014, which could mean that the time is ripe for the new game, “The Sims 5.”
