“The Walking Dead” season 9 is returning soon but sadly, it will be the last season for Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes). A few months ago, there were rumors that the “TWD” lead star is leaving the show but this was not confirmed until the San Diego Comic-Con that took place in July.
At the SDCC 2018, the cast and producers of “The Walking Dead” season 9 attended the panel for their series and it was there where Andrew Lincoln talked about his impending exit from the hit AMC series.
“Let me clarify something. Yes, it’s my last season on the TV show, 'The Walking Dead," Lincoln confirmed.
He will be leaving a big void when he bids his goodbye but he explained that he had to make the decision. Further speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said that it was his own choice to leave in “The Walking Dead” season 9 and the show’s execs have nothing to do with it.
The series is very popular but he narrated that he will give it up because he wants to have more time with his family. Andrew Lincoln said that he is missing out on a lot at home, especially the moments with his kids. They have grown up already but during the eight years that he has been working on “TWD,” he did not exactly see them growing up.
“I have two young children, and I live in a different country, and they become less portable as they get older,” Lincoln said. “It was that simple. It was time for me to come home.”
“The Walking Dead” season 9 star lives in England but he spends more than half a year in Georgia due to filming. With his schedule, he is usually away from his wife and kids for too long. Andrew Lincoln has two children with wife Gael Anderson, and they are Arthur and Matilda Lincoln.
Finally, showrunner Angela Kang explained how they will handle Rick Grimes' retreat when Andrew Lincoln finally departs from “The Walking Dead” season 9.
“The goal this season was just to pay homage to that character — the character that brought us into the show,” she simply told EW. “And we just really wanted to be respectful of that character and send him off in a great way. So that was the charge for us this season.”
“The Walking Dead” season 9 is coming back on Oct. 7.
