The end is near for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his exit is going to be a game-changer for the series. As seen in the final moments of the previous episode, Rick is grievously wounded after he is thrown from his horse onto a piece of exposed rebar which impales him. As a group of walkers approach, Rick goes unconscious and the audience is left wondering if he will survive the encounter. Apparently, he does as seen in the trailer for “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 5.
Actually, the trailer is a little confusing because it shows Rick heading back to Atlanta on horseback. There is even a scene of him lying in a hospital bed similar to the one in the first episode of the series. It seems “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 5 is really going to take viewers down memory lane. Of course, it’s possible that he is just hallucinating everything as he lays dying on the rebar.
Showrunner Angela Kang has already confirmed that Jon Bernthal, Scott Wilson, and Sonequa Martin-Green are returning as Shane, Hershel and Sasha, respectively this season and this episode seems like the perfect one for them to show up. Fans have speculated that Rick will interact with each one while he hallucinates and they will have some interesting things to say to him.
“Hershel’s scene takes place on the Greene farm. He apologizes for his actions that cause Maggie to suffer and led to Beth and Glenn’s demise. Rick asks to see his Alexandria family, but Hershel says they aren’t there. For Shane, we see the scene where Rick gets shot. He jokes about Judith being his daughter and hopes that some of his jerkier tendencies have helped Rick survive. He tells Rick to ‘do what needs to be done,’” Christopher Groux said in his piece for Newsweek.
Interestingly, fans believe Rick will meet his end as he blows up the bridge that stood as the symbol for his envisioned new society. Check out “The Walking Dead” Season 9 Episode 5 when it airs on Nov. 4 to see how Rick really dies.
