Maggie Rhee (Laura Cohen) has been one of the cornerstones of “The Walking Dead” over the last few seasons, especially following the death of her husband, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). In “The Walking Dead” Season 9, however, she will be departing the show alongside Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). It seems the exit of both characters will be open-ended, however, so a return might be possible.
The departure of Andrew Lincoln once “The Walking Dead” Season 9 arrives has already left a lot of fans devastated. Although it was inevitable, it is still sad to see one of the only remaining original characters leave. With the addition of Laura Cohen’s exit, it’s now difficult to imagine the future of the show. Speaking to GameSpot recently, though, the actress opened up about the in which she is leaving.
"It feels like the greatest way to honor it is to keep it open-ended because whether it's about me going back as Maggie or whether it's about me just taking in, absorbing, and honoring everything I've learned there," the actress said.
As to how the departure is going to happen, it seems that it will occur during particularly hectic periods in “The Walking Dead” Season 9. This is according to what the actress hinted, Metro notes. Without a doubt, however, her presence is going to be sorely missed once she is gone.
At this point, there’s also no telling who will be leaving first in “The Walking Dead” Season 9. It’s likely that it will be Maggie who goes before Rick since this would make for a more momentous occasion. If it’s the other way around, the impact might be lessened by the fact that the bigger force in the show had left first. Both cases sound plausible, with the only unlikely scenario being the two characters leaving at the same time. Now, that would be a twist worth remembering.
