“The Wins of Winter” may be arriving soon as its author George RR Martin recently vowed to finish the book. It has been delayed several times already, so it is about time that it comes out.
The author said that since there is less pressure now for him to complete “The Winds of Winter,” he can calmly work on his own pace, and this may actually speed him up. He also shared that he is also not likely to procrastinate again as the lifted pressure will push him to write more comfortably.
Martin’s vow to fans
On his recent participation in the Irish Book Awards in Dublin, he told fans that he is finishing “The Winds of Winter.” He repeated that he intends to finish the sixth book in the “A Song of Fire and Ice” series so they need not worry about it not making it to the bookshelves.
"My latest book ‘Fire and Blood’ is a work of imaginary history and ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ is a work of fiction, fantasy novels, which I will finish," RTE quoted Martin as saying in his speech during the event on Aug. 20. "I know I should be at home writing right now, I’m sorry! It is based on history, the 100 Years War, the Crusades, a whole lot of things from medieval history which I’ve read over the years."
The author explains why “Game of Thrones” got ahead of “TWOW”
In an interview, George RR Martin also explained why “The Winds of Winter” was not finished when HBO’s “GoT” already reached the end of the series. He said that although the drama overtook his novels, he will not change the story in the book to fit with how “Game of Thrones” ended.
Speaking with ITV last week during his visit to Northern Ireland, the 70-year-old author stated: “I’ve known the ending of my books since 1993 or so, so I’m just moving forward with the story that I’ve always intended to tell.”
Martin went on to explain that he knows fans are frustrated because the show is finished but “The Winds of Winter” is not. Thus, he offered an explanation as to why this happened.
“The show got ahead of me several years ago, which I never thought would happen, but the show made some decisions to omit certain characters and subplots that I was dealing with,”
he said. “And that got them ahead of me, and I’m still working…I’m still in Westeros.”
Meanwhile, as suggested by Martin in his earlier statements, he will release “The Winds of Winter” in July 2020.
