Fans have been waiting for “The Winds of Winter” for a long time so they were overjoyed when it was announced that the book finally has a due date. However, it seems that rather than a real publishing date, another delay announcement is coming.
George RR Martin announced last month that “The Winds of Winter” is coming in July 2020. He even challenged everyone to imprison him if the book is not ready by then. He might have stated this as he had missed several deadlines already for over the eight-year period, so it may be a little harder to convince the fans.
In his blog, Martin wrote, "I tell you this. If I don't have ‘The Winds of Winter’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for WorldCon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I'm done."
It should be noted that the New Zealand WorldCon is set to take place in July next year so it is clear that he said “The Winds of Winter” is arriving on that day. However, although the announcement was made not that long ago, various publications are reporting that the new due date for the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series could be delayed again.
The reason for the possible delay of “The Winds of Winter”: George RR Martin has a new project and fans are worried that this could hinder his progress on the book again. According to Deadline, the 70-year-old author signed up for new work. He is the new chief world builder for Meow Wolf, an arts and entertainment company offering immersive experiences and interactive exhibitions based in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the U.S.
At Meow Wolf, Martin is expected to bring “unparalleled storytelling skills to the multiverse.” He will work with a team where he will share ideas and advice on creating unique narratives for the exhibits.
“From the very beginning, the Meow Wolf team captured my curiosity so when Vince Kadlubek, CEO of Meow Wolf, first approached me with the idea to buy and renovate a bowling alley, I wasn’t sure what to expect,” Martin said. “However, they really sparked my interest and their vision pushed all my buttons — a sci-fi world spanning multiple universes — they delivered something we’ve never seen before.”
Now, with George RR Martin having new passion and commitment, everyone thinks that this will affect “The Winds of Winter” release date. Most people believe that the author will push back the July 2020 due and this would be heartbreaking. Will he really move the publishing date? Many wish for “no” as an answer and this is understandable.
