“The Winds of Winter” has yet to be released even after eight years of wait. George RR Martin was not able to publish the book on time for many reasons and he once admitted that he is having a hard time finishing the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
The author already missed a lot of deadlines for “The Winds of Winter” and his latest promised due date was announced last month. Through his blog, he wrote an entry titled “Thanks, New Zealand” and in his post, he assured fans that “TWOW” is finally coming out next year.
Martin revealed the due date for “The Winds of Winter” by writing: “If I don’t have ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.” He added, “Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”
The Worldcon in NZ is taking place on July 31, 2020, so this was assumed as the due date for “TWOW.” However, reports surfaced that George RR Martin has taken on a new job as chief world builder at Meow Wolf.
He will be in charge of creating ideas for a unique kind of interactive storytelling and the author is ecstatic about his new job. But fans are not happy because this means he will have something that will keep him busy so the likelihood of delay for the release of “The Winds of Winter” is feared once again.
What’s more, in a piece of leaked information, it was revealed that George RR Martin is also working on a new video game called “Elden Ring” and the fans expressed further frustration as this is another reason that can hamper the publication of the book that has been delayed lots of times already.
“If it had taken me 8 years to write a book I still hadn’t finished, I wouldn’t be messing around with so many other projects. Just finish the Winds of Winter you plum,” one commenter tweeted.
The game was supposed to be launched at the E3 this year but it was leaked on social media. Based on the info, the game is a collaboration between Martin, Hidetaka Miyazaki and From Software. With many projects in hand, the question is will the 70-year-old author keep his promise of finishing “The Winds of Winter” by July 2020?
