There have been more updates on the possible release window of “The Winds of Winter” in the past couple of weeks than there ever was in the past couple of years. And now, author George R.R. Martin is speculated to finish the book very soon.
The latest clue picked up by fans was from a profile by the Wall Street Journal where Martin is said to be in “hiding” in a “remote mountain hideaway” to focus on writing “The Winds of Winter.” The article clearly mentioned that it was a location Martin favors to stay in whenever he is determined to finishing a book.
Meanwhile, Martin reportedly wanted the location to remain undisclosed but fans will speculate on it anyway. Along with guessing where the secret cabin is, there is also the possibility that “The Winds of Winter” could be completed sooner than expected.
Famous “Game of Thrones” theorist BryndenBFish suggested that the hideaway was the same “bunker” Martin went to for the final weeks of writing “A Dance with Dragons” and might be somewhere in New Mexico. But, more importantly, he noted that George R.R. Martin went to this remote cabin “when he was like a month out from finishing” the predecessor book of “The Winds of Winter."
Even though the above-mentioned updates are generally great, winter is still unlikely to arrive in 2018. For one, Martin confirmed “The Winds of Winter” will not be released this year. And if he does finish the book within the following weeks, there are other processes necessary before the book hits the stores. This leads to the most possible release date happening sometime in 2019.
Martin might be one of the most renowned sci-fi/fantasy writers around the world but he admitted to still struggle and get distracted when finishing his projects. The same thing happened with “The Winds of Winter,” he recently told the Guardian.
The author also openly talks about his other TV and book projects but George R.R. Martin assured fans that, with “Fire and Blood” coming out this week, “The Winds of Winter” is now his priority. And with him going to a place with much fewer distractions, fans can hold on to his words, “Once I really get rolling, I get into the world. The rest of the world vanishes … I’m just living in the world I’m writing about.”
