George RR Martin has been working on “The Winds of Winter” for quite some time now and avid followers of the book series have been waiting for updates about it. Recently, the veteran writer stirred up the internet after sharing a new statement on the sixth installment of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series.

George RR Martin Shares Latest Update On ‘The Winds of Winter’

Netizens were quick to lambast George RR Martin after they sensed a bit of change in his attitude when sharing an update about “The Winds of Winter.” “I’ve been working… I’m 12 years late with ‘Winds of Winter,’ … I’m just going to put it right out there, you guys don’t have to pester me about it,” GRRM reported stated, as per a Twitter post by Culture Cave.

Twitter users reacted to the post, with many of them criticizing George RR Martin for delaying the release of “The Winds of Winter.” “I rather him be honest and say he doesn’t want to finish it,” one user wrote.

“Man is probably tryna figure out how to save GOT after the last two seasons of the show,” a second Twitter user shared. “Before, he had the pressure that the series was going to reach him, but now that the series ended I don’t think he has any intention of continuing with that project,” another netizen penned on Twitter.

“They will stop bothering you, to the point where no one will care anymore, when it is released,” a fourth user opined. “A delay of 12 years surely is something,” as another netizen concluded, “He will never finish it. Wrote himself into a gigantic corner. Doubt story will ever be completed.”

Most, if not all, fans are aware that the “Game of Thrones” series followed George RR Martin's writing until Season 5. However, for the succeeding installments, the producers will require the sixth book, “The Winds of Winter,” which is said to have a total of 3,000 pages long and has yet to be released.

“I will make no predictions on when I will finish. Every time I do, a*sholes on the internet take that as a ‘promise’, and then wait eagerly to crucify me when I miss the deadline. All I will say is that I am hopeful,” George RR Martin said of “The Winds of Winter” in 2021.

What Delays George RR Martin From Releasing ‘The Winds of Winter’ Book?

It's been more than a decade since the release of “A Dance With Dragons,” the fifth volume in George RR Martin's iconic “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, which HBO memorably adapted as “Game of Thrones.” GRRM has two additional volumes in the works, beginning with “The Winds of Winter.” Many of his followers are perplexed about what is taking him so long.

Apart from writing “The Winds of Winter” book, George RR Martin has also been busy with “House of the Dragon,” wherein he serves as a consultant about the direction of the HBO series. The American author is also said to be writing a second book about the Targaryen dynasty called “Blood & Fire.”

Kings Daeron, Baelor, Viserys, Aegon IV, Aerys, Maekar, Aegon V, Jaehaerys II, and Aerys II, the Mad King would be covered in “Blood & Fire,” per WinterIsComing.net. Like “The Winds of Winter,” fans can expect a lengthy book that delves into the ages of Westerosi history that have been discussed very briefly.

It can be annoying and even maddening to have to wait so long for the next installment of a cherished series. But everyone is human, and expecting George RR Martin to dedicate all of his attention to one project is unreasonable. Besides “The Winds of Winter,” he has always worked on a wide range of projects throughout his career, and at 74, he's busier than he has ever been.
