“Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2 is very likely going to continue the story of how Haise Sasaki makes the transition from his real identity as Ken Kaneki. The upcoming season is being regarded as the final installment for the anime adaptation, which means it will cover stories from more than 100 manga chapters.
The last video trailer to be released before “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2 officially airs came out last week. Though the teaser only runs for 15 seconds, it was enough to confirm that fans will soon be watching the end to Ken Kaneki’s story.
Just like in the manga, the first season of “Tokyo Ghoul:re” started a couple of years since the CCG raided Anteiku and after Kishou Arima defeated Kaneki. The previous season began with Kaneki living as Haise Sasaki after losing all of his memories prior to his battle with Arima.
However, the finale for “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 1 showed that Sasaki is starting to get more vivid visions of his real identity. It can be recalled that memories started flashing back after Eto revealed to Sasaki that she is actually Sen Takatsuki and he is Kaneki — all this while Eto was badly hurting Sasaki.
It did not take long before Sasaki finally remembered his memories as young Kaneki being beaten by his mother. He also remembered about Hide and how he lost to Arima with a quinque. Gaining his memories helped him unleash his power. This also means that “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2 is going to start with Kaneki already knowing who he really is.
Now back as Kaneki in “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2, the main protagonist is expected to lead the war against the Aogiri Tree terrorists. And since “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2 is going to be the final anime installment, ComicBook noted that it would have to cover a total of 122 manga chapters. Meanwhile, the creators have only confirmed that “Tokyo Ghoul:re” season 2 is arriving in October but no specific date has been provided yet.
