Paramount Pictures has delayed Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible 8” movie by nearly a year from its original release date of June 28, 2024 to May 23, 2025.
‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Release Date
The “Mission: Impossible 8" film, like other films of its size and scale, was forced to cease production due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and will not be ready for release next summer. Many big-budget tentpoles will face this fate if the actors union and studios do not resolve their contract negotiations in the coming weeks.
"Mission: Impossible 8," per Variety, will have a new title when it hits the big screen. The second part of the title, formerly "Dead Reckoning Part Two," is being dropped by Paramount and Skydance, while the sequel will directly follow the events of 2023's "Dead Reckoning Part One."
The seventh installment—of course, before the “Mission: Impossible 8” movie--was released in theaters soon before the global phenomenon of Barbenheimer. Despite favorable reviews and goodwill from Tom Cruise's last blockbuster hit "Top Gun: Maverick," the tentpole fell short of box office projections, grossing $567 million worldwide.
Because Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" dominated the premium format through the remainder of the summer, "Part One" barely played on Imax screens. That will not be the case with the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 8," which will have a three-week exclusive run at Imax.
‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Cast
Of course, Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in “Mission: Impossible 8,” but the seventh installment had its share of casualties. Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), Ethan's long-running IMF cohorts, will return, however, Rebecca Ferguson's Ilsa Faust was slain by Gabriel (Esai Morales) and will not return.
There's always the potential that Ilsa isn't actually dead, but she seemed dead to us, and McQuarrie's defense of the disputed moment suggests she is. Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Grace, who accepts the opportunity to join the IMF at the end of the seventh installment, while Vanessa Kirby's Alanna Mitsopolis, dubbed the White Widow, will continue to cause havoc for Ethan in “Mission: Impossible 8.”
Kittridge (Henry Czerny), Jasper Briggs (Shea Whigham), and Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis) will all return in “Mission: Impossible 8.” Cary Elwes, however, will not return as Denlinger, as Gabriel assassinated him after discovering the location of the Sevastopol.
‘Mission: Impossible 8’ Plot
No official details about the “Mission: Impossible 8” plot have been released as of this writing. However, the spat between Ethan and Gabriel will form the basis of the forthcoming movie since Ethan knows that Gabriel knows where Sevastopol is.
