Lady Glenconner, Queen Elizabeth's childhood friend, says Meghan Markle thought royal life was all flash and glamor before tying the knot with Prince Harry.
Queen Elizabeth’s Pal Says Meghan Markle Had Wrong Expectations from Royal Life
The 91-year-old claims the Duchess of Sussex expected to be "riding around in a golden coach" and treated like a movie star. “I think the thing about Meghan was, she had no idea what was expected of her really. I think she just thought it was sort of like being another actress, you know,” Lady Glenconner stated during her recent appearance on the “Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth” podcast.
The close friend of Queen Elizabeth suggested that being a member of the royal family can be “extremely boring.” Lady Glenconner opined that most of their days are spent “meeting hundreds of people that you’re not going to meet again.”
“I think it was very sad and I feel very sad for Harry,” she said of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to leave it all behind. Lady Glenconner, who previously served as Queen Elizabeth's sister Princess Margaret's lady-in-waiting, then shared details of a chat she had with American politician John Kerry at King Charles III's coronation.
When the socialite asked Kerry what people “in America” think about the couple, the American lawyer-politician allegedly agreed with her. “He said, ‘We all feel very, very sorry for Harry,’” he reportedly responded. “I think I can just leave it at that.”
Most, if not all, fans are aware that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry met in 2016 and married two years later. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit their royal responsibilities in early 2020 and relocated to California, where they have resided with their two young children ever since.
Meghan and Prince Harry abandoned their jobs over charges of bigotry and maltreatment inside their family, as well as public exposure and related security difficulties.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Might Return To The U.K. Three Years After ‘Megxit’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are said to be looking for a home in the United Kingdom. After stepping down as senior royal family members, the couple relocated to California in 2020. However, after only three years, they may make an unexpected return to the land they abandoned.
“There is a divide between the couple on this issue but they will soon start looking for a property of their own near London, and Harry is very much leading this,” an unnamed insider told OK! Magazine, per News.com.au. “They won’t be asking the King for a property on the royal estate due to the issue that arose with Frogmore Cottage. Making use of a small apartment in Kensington Palace from time to time isn’t out of the question, but when it comes to a home in the UK, they will purchase that themselves,” the same informant added.
Despite Meghan Markle's intention to remain in America, Prince Harry is said to be putting his foot down and insisting on rebuilding his life in his homeland. Despite recent allegations that the monarch wants to "reunite" with the couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected not to seek King Charles' help.
