ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., May 16, 2016 -- Tracy George, MD, Medical Director for TriCore Reference Laboratories' Genetics and Cytometry laboratories addressed the audience at the International Society for Laboratory Hematology (ISLH) 2016.

Dr. George presented From Bench to Bedside: Advances in Mastocytosis, discussing mast cell disease and the development of a targeted therapy for patients with advanced mastocytosis.
"This presentation focused on advanced mast cell disease including mast cell leukemia, aggressive mastocytosis, systemic mastocytosis with associated hematological non-mast cell disease, and other rare variants," said Dr. George.
The study and pathology of advanced mast cell disease in the past decade has led to important insights regarding neoplastic mast cells and potential therapeutics. Dr. George discusses mast cell disease, from bench to bedside, and how translational research is resulting in clinical advances.
Dr. George is an associate professor of pathology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. In addition, she serves as division chief of hematopathology and director of the Hematopathology Fellowship Program. Her research interests are myeloproliferative neoplasms, with a focus on mastocytosis, reactive lymphadenopathies, and laboratory hematology. She has served in several education and leadership roles with the College of American Pathologists, and is a member of the American Society of Hematology's Image Bank task force.
