Trump Pledges 100% Tariff on Stellantis for Job Relocation to Mexico
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced at a rally in Michigan on Friday that, if elected, he would impose a 100% tariff on Stellantis should the automaker move U.S. jobs to Mexico. The former president’s comments were aimed at protecting American manufacturing jobs and preventing companies from outsourcing production.
Speaking in the key battleground state, Trump specifically addressed concerns raised by another speaker who stated that Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, had been manufacturing vehicles in Mexico. Trump’s remarks reinforced his commitment to prioritizing American workers and deterring corporations from relocating operations abroad.
"Tell Stellantis that if they plan on moving, we're going to charge them a 100% tariff on every car," Trump stated, emphasizing his intent to make outsourcing economically unviable for U.S.-based automakers.
This proposed policy is part of Trump’s broader vision to bring manufacturing back to the U.S. and reduce dependency on foreign production. With Michigan’s economy historically tied to the automotive industry, Trump’s pledge resonated strongly among voters who are concerned about job security and the future of American manufacturing.
