President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the United States military will not take direct action to disarm Hamas militants. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump clarified that while the U.S. will continue to support Israel, it will not deploy American troops for operations targeting Hamas in Gaza.
The president emphasized that Washington’s role will focus on providing strategic, logistical, and diplomatic assistance to Israel as it leads efforts to dismantle Hamas’s military capabilities. Trump reiterated the administration’s firm backing of Israel’s right to defend itself against terrorist threats, calling the disarmament of Hamas an essential step toward long-term stability in the region.
According to Trump, the United States expects Hamas to surrender its weapons as part of the recently negotiated Gaza peace deal. The agreement, reached last week, aims to reduce tensions between Israel and Palestinian factions, setting the groundwork for potential humanitarian relief and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
Trump stated that the U.S. remains committed to achieving “lasting peace” in the Middle East but made clear that the responsibility for confronting Hamas lies with Israel and regional partners. “The U.S. supports Israel’s security and the peace process, but our troops will not be involved in disarming Hamas,” Trump said.
The decision highlights the administration’s continued prioritization of alliance-based strategy over direct military intervention. Analysts suggest that this approach seeks to maintain strong U.S.-Israel relations while minimizing American involvement in foreign conflicts.
The president’s remarks reaffirm the U.S. position that Hamas must disarm and commit to peace negotiations to ensure stability in Gaza and the broader Middle East.
