Turkish consumer price inflation eases in February. On a sequential basis, consumer price index came in at 0.16 percent, as compared with consensus expectations of 0.40 percent and prior month’s print of 1.06 percent. On a year-on-year basis, the headline inflation came in at 19.67, as compared with consensus expectations of 19.09 percent and prior month’s 20.35 percent.
The highest monthly rise was in health, which recorded 2.48 percent. The indices for education, food and non-alcoholic beverages came in at 1.64 percent and 0.90 percent, respectively. The indices for hotels, cafes and restaurants came in at 0.87 percent and 0.71 percent, respectively. Clothing and footwear recorded the highest monthly fall of 4.81 percent. The indices dropped for miscellaneous goods and services 0.39 percent, for recreation and culture 0.37 percent and for communication 0.34 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the highest annual rise at 29.25 percent. Miscellaneous goods and services came in at 28.08 percent, furnishing and household equipment with 27.59 percent, recreation and culture with 20.43 percent and hotels, cafes and restaurants with 19.79 percent were the other main groups where high annual rises realized.
