At this point, it’s well known that Twitter has become a haven for trolls and degenerates to spread lies, hate, and offensive remarks. While the social media platform has been hard at work to stamp out these elements, they are still alive and thriving. In a new initiative, Twitter just unveiled a feature that could Mute notifications that might potentially come from trolls.
Twitter is notorious for driving its most prolific users to madness out of sheer frustration over comments from trolls. As such, the microblogging site has done everything in its power to make sure that these comments become as invisible as possible. In a new update, Twitter is giving users the ability to mute notifications with regards to posts from people that they don’t know, Business Insider reports.
By making sure that users don’t get notified whenever someone on Twitter who they don’t follow or who don’t follow them posts on the platform, it potentially provides users with more peace of mind. All they have to do is configure their own apps using the advanced filter settings and set the notification appropriately.
Low-quality content can also be muted by the users if they want. These can include posts that would appear automated or that don’t really offer anything of substance.
This new option adds to about half a dozen filters that can help users weed out the trolls from the sincere folks at Twitter, CNET reports. Users can activate some of them or all of them at once, which actually provides a considerable level of protection against offensive comments.
On that note, Trolls can be incredibly resourceful and have always found ways around limitations that are meant to keep them in check. At least, with the new Mute feature, users won’t have to worry about being harassed by these nefarious denizens of the web when they’re not on Twitter.
