The United States has suspended all military aid to Ukraine following a heated meeting between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Reports from Reuters and The Wall Street Journal confirmed the White House is reviewing its aid policy to ensure efforts contribute to peace. However, it remains unclear what specific conditions Washington expects from Kyiv.
Trump reportedly criticized Zelensky for suggesting the war with Russia could continue indefinitely. He even called Zelensky a “dictator,” blaming him for prolonging the conflict. This decision marks a significant shift in U.S. policy, as Washington has provided Ukraine with hundreds of billions in aid since Russia’s 2022 invasion.
Sources indicate Trump is pushing for a mineral export deal with Ukraine, raising questions about the administration’s strategic goals. Meanwhile, European nations have expressed support for Kyiv following Trump and Zelensky’s tense exchange.
The aid suspension is expected to weaken Ukraine’s defense capabilities against Russia, as U.S. assistance has been a key pillar of Kyiv’s military strategy. Trump previously stated he was working on a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, though its terms remain undisclosed, and Ukraine appears uninvolved in negotiations.
