US Presidential Election Series: Second runners top Wisconsin primary

In both democratic and Republican side, second runners won big in Tuesday’s primary at Wisconsin, pointing that US nomination race being far from over.

Democratic Party race –

Second runner Bernie Sanders secured a win in Wisconsin, however his delegates lead hasn’t been that impressive. With 97% reporting, Sanders has won 45 delegates, while front runner Hilary Clinton secured 31 delegates, despite losing.

After Tuesday’s primary, Clinton is comfortable ahead with 1743 delegates, while Mr. Sanders has 1056. However, excluding the super delegates, who may or may not change camps, Hilary is leading with just 249 delegates.

Republican Party race –

Second runner Ted Cruz, has won big in Wisconsin, by securing 33 delegates to front runner Donald Trump’s 3. Third runner John Kasich secured 14% of the votes, failing to secure any delegates so far. Six delegates are yet to be allotted.

With Wisconsin primary, Donald Trump is now leading with 740 delegates, followed by TED Cruz’s 514 and John Kasich’s 143.

Both of the winners were leading in polls, well ahead of the election.

Next in line is New York for Republicans on April 19th and Wyoming for Democrats on April 9th.
