Russia and Ukraine exchanged major missile and drone attacks overnight, leaving several people dead and damaging industrial and commercial facilities as the war continues to intensify.

Russian forces struck ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine’s largest steel plant, killing at least two people and injuring 14, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack damaged key power generation and blast furnace facilities, forcing parts of the plant’s production process to halt.

Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, remains an important industrial center. Russia also launched a missile strike on Kyiv early Sunday, causing fires in at least two districts and injuring three people. Drone attacks elsewhere in the Kyiv region wounded three others, including a child.

Ukraine, meanwhile, launched a large-scale drone attack on Russia. Moscow’s Defence Ministry claimed 822 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across the country. Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said an 83-year-old man was killed and several people were injured around Podolsk.

A warehouse operated by Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries in Koledino, around 45 kilometers south of Moscow, was also struck and caught fire. Ukraine has targeted Wildberries facilities in recent weeks, accusing the company of handling military-related goods.

Another drone strike killed one person on a bus near Belgorod, while Ukraine’s military said it attacked a missile fuel production facility in Russia’s Rostov region.

The conflict also spilled into NATO territory when Romania reported that an F-18 fighter from a Spanish NATO contingent shot down a drone that entered Romanian airspace from Moldova. NATO said the aircraft appeared to be Russian, although Romania did not officially identify its origin. Drone fragments reportedly fell in an uninhabited area.

The latest Russia-Ukraine attacks follow escalating strikes on ports, oil refineries, commercial vessels and other economic infrastructure, highlighting the growing reach of the conflict beyond the immediate battlefield.
