The U.S. State Department’s 2025 procurement forecast includes a $400 million allocation for “Armored Teslas,” hinting at a possible government contract for the electric vehicle maker. The forecast, released on the department’s website, outlines future spending plans and was updated in December 2024, during President Joe Biden’s administration.
Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) does not currently produce armored vehicles, but CEO Elon Musk has promoted the Cybertruck’s bullet-resistant capabilities. The vehicle was recently seen in President Donald Trump’s Texas motorcade. The report also lists armored BMW (ETR: BMWG) X5 and X7 models.
While the forecast does not confirm a contract for Tesla, it underscores Musk’s growing influence in Washington. Trump recently appointed him to lead a cost-cutting task force, where Musk claims to have reduced government spending by $1 billion per day, largely targeting USAID. Analysts believe his influence could accelerate regulatory approvals for autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence.
The potential contract aligns with Tesla’s push into new markets and could further boost its stock performance. If awarded, it would mark a significant milestone in Tesla’s relationship with the U.S. government, reinforcing Musk’s political and economic impact.
