Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) searched the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and an employee's home on Oct. 21, while the central bank said it was operating normally and investigators did not identify the case.
NABU said its detectives conducted the searches under the supervision of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). No one had been detained or notified of suspicion when the bureau issued its statement, it said. NABU did not name the employee.
Radio Svoboda's Schemes project reported, citing sources, that investigators searched the office of NBU Governor Andriy Pyshnyi. The Kyiv Independent and Ukrainska Pravda separately reported searches at premises linked to Pyshnyi, also citing sources. Neither official statement identified him as the employee whose home was searched.
The NBU confirmed investigative activity at its premises. Pyshnyi has served as governor since Oct. 7, 2022, and the bank's board is responsible for managing the institution and conducting monetary policy.
The NBU said it would provide more information after the investigative actions ended but gave no date.
