‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ is set to feature Kate Beckinsale as the vampire Selene as seen in the newly released first official poster.
According to Screen Rant, the first official poster for the upcoming fifth installment in the ‘Underworld’ cinematic series has recently been unveiled featuring lead actress Kate Beckinsale in full garb as the vampire Selene. She is dressed in fur-lined armor as she draws guns in both hands. She also stands against an all-white wintry backdrop.
Beckinsale is set to re-emerge on the big screen as Selene, the series’ main protagonist. Selene is a vampire Death Stealer sired by the vampire elder Viktor after he slaughtered her entire family without her knowledge. She is known to be proficient with many weapons and is an expert in unarmed combat.
Selene possesses superhuman powers of strength, agility, speed, and endurance and has the powers of rapid regeneration. Her healing powers were increased after becoming a Vampire-Corvinus Strain Hybrid. She also has enhanced senses and is immune to UV light.
Beckinsale was first introduced as Selene in the 2003 action-horror film ‘Underworld’, directed by Len Wiseman. The film received generally negative reviews and earned $95.71 million worldwide on a budget of $22 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Despite the lukewarm reception, a sequel entitled ‘Underworld: Evolution’ was released on 2006.
The 43-year old English actress returned to reprise her role in 2012’s ‘Underworld: Awakening’ after skipping out on the third installment ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’, which focused primarily on the origins and characters that led up to the Vampire-Lycan war in the series. ‘Rise of the Lycans’ starred Rhona Mitra and Michael Sheen in the lead roles.
Joining Beckinsale in the fifth film are Theo James, Tobias Menzies, Trent Garrett, Lara Pulver, Bradley James, Charles Dance, James Faulkner, and Peter Andersson. Anna Foerster is helming the film with original director Len Wiseman staying on as producer.
‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ is an upcoming action-horror film directed by Anna Foerster and written by Cory Goodman. It is the sequel to the 2012 film ‘Underworld: Awakening’ and produced by Lakeshore Entertainment, Screen Gems, and Sketch Films.
It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on January 6, 2017.
