Universal Music Group and BandLab have forged an alliance to help protect artists' rights as the use of artificial intelligence continues to rise. The main aim of the partnership is to prevent AI from overstepping its boundaries and negatively affecting the profession of artists.
Likewise, the Universal Music Group and BandLab Technologies have come together to put a spotlight on the ethical usage of AI. If the technology is applied properly and responsibly, then violations of artists' and songwriters’ rights are avoided.
Promotion for Responsible Application and Practices Related to AI
As per CoinTelegraph, the partners will make efforts and strive to nurture responsible practices with AI in the business sector. While the main objective of the alliance is to safeguard the rights of the artists, they will also focus on how artificial intelligence is used in the field.
To achieve their goal, Universal Music and BandLab Technologies are planning to set up responsible methods for the use of AI in creative processes to promote human creativity and culture. Some of the major personalities in the music industry also agree that AI could be an “amplifier” of people’s artistry.
The Main Issue with AIs
Universal Music and BandLab are concerned that as the use of artificial intelligence grows, the music industry will suffer because it will clash with song pieces created by generative AI that can also imitate artists' voices now. Apparently, if this becomes the trend, the music business will die, and artists will be left with no job and outlet to express their talents.
“This is more important than ever right now as AI assumes an increasingly prominent place in the evolution of music creation tools,” Universal Music’s executive vice president and chief digital officer, Michael Nash, said in a press release.
Meng Ru Kuok, CEO of BandLab Technologies and founder of Caldecott Music Group, added, “Though new technologies offer unbelievable possibilities to break down more barriers for creators, it’s essential that artists’ and songwriters’ rights be fully respected and protected to give these future generations a chance of success.”
He added, “As demonstrated by BandLab embracing the Human Artistry Campaign principles and this collaboration with UMG, we are committed to getting it right. Through our joint efforts, we anticipate a future of music that is innovative, rewarding, and endlessly inspiring.”
