A cost target above $50 million a year gives Viatris a benchmark for its proposed Pacira purchase, with the company aiming to reach that level by the end of 2028 if the deal closes.
Viatris agreed to pay $36.50 per share in cash, giving the transaction an equity value of $1.65 billion. Pacira's pain brands EXPAREL and ZILRETTA would join Viatris' portfolio if the deal closes. EconoTimes earlier covered Viatris' cash offer to Pacira shareholders.
Viatris set the target during its Nov. 5 third-quarter earnings call, where Interim CFO Paul Campbell said annual cost synergies should top $50 million by the end of 2028. Viatris said integration could bring further savings but did not quantify them. The figure remains a goal, not savings already achieved.
Greater China posted $702.6 million in net sales in the third quarter, compared with $615.2 million in the same period a year earlier. At constant currency, sales increased 10%, versus 14% on a reported basis.
During the call's question-and-answer session, Campbell put Greater China's 2027 growth in the low to mid single digits, near historical averages. The outlook did not appear in Viatris' written earnings release or presentation. Campbell said a hospital-focused procurement policy was already tempering growth, especially in the hospital channel, and could weigh more heavily in the fourth quarter as additional provinces adopt it. He said differences in provincial readiness and enforcement made the effect difficult to gauge.
Viatris expects the purchase to close by late November 2026, pending the remaining deal conditions.
