NASA has been responsible for sending rockets into space and putting a people on the moon over the decades, so that should make it plenty cool already, right? Well, legendary TV and movie star Will Smith just upped the ante in a recent round of Instagram video discussion with an actual astronaut. What did they talk about? Let’s just say no one could have made the subject of poop as cool as Will Smith could.
Just for some context, Thursday saw the first ever instance of Instagram Live occurring in the International Space Station, where scientists usually conduct experiments and bear witness to the wonders of the cosmos. During the event though, the astronauts came in contact with a different star in the form of the beloved Hollywood figure from the Men in Black series, Inverse reports.
The event saw flight engineer Drew Feustel speaking to Smith via Instagram Live as part of the One Strange Rock documentary series that the National Geographic series was doing. Among their topics of conversation was the matter of going to the bathroom in space, which is no easy task. The absence of gravity makes things float, after all, and poop is a thing.
"You can have a good day in the bathroom and you can have a really bad day in the bathroom. And you hope for the good days," Feustel said about the challenges of doing one’s business on the ISS.
As CNET notes, with the exception of the extra star power of Smith, this is actually another addition to the social media stardom trend that has recently been associated with being an astronaut. Ever since gaining internet access via Crew Support LAN back in 2010, members have been firing off Tweets and YouTube clips showcasing their daily activities, which have been drawing a considerable amount of public adoration.
