Wiper, a chat application which enables users to control their sent and received messages, recently added support for bitcoin transactions between its users. The feature is simple, allowing users to send digital currency to others within the app's main chat interface.
However, this got Wiper removed from Apple's iOS App Store in China, company's CEO Manlio Carrelli said. Carrelli told TechCrunch that Wiper was "removed from the iOS App Store in China due to violating that app store's policies," and that "Apple [had] explained to [the company] by phone that this violation was related to Wiper enabling bitcoin payments."
Wiper is quickly gaining market share and the app has reportedly received 8 million downloads in the last three months. Last summer, the company raised $2.5 million.
It said that there are around 2.5 billion people who have access to smartphones but are under banked, and bitcoin is going to transform this. Carrelli said that apps like Wiper are "a simple, intuitive way to introduce better financial tools."
