‘Wolverine 3’ lead actor Hugh Jackman celebrated the official end of filming by shaving off his character’s signature beard. He posted a new video on Twitter chronicling the end of his Wolverine days. Meanwhile, Johnathon Schaech of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ fame admitted that he always wanted to play Logan.
According to Collider, Jackman celebrated the end of filming for James Mangold’s yet untitled ‘Wolverine’ film by posting a video of himself shaving his signature beard off. The Twitter video dated August 22 was captioned, “My wife is going to be very happy. #GoodbyeChops #TheDebs.”
The 47-year old Australian actor was first introduced into the X-Men cinematic series in 2000’s ‘X-Men’. He reprised his role as Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in the character’s first standalone film in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ as well as its sequel ‘The Wolverine’, released in 2013. He also appeared in a cameo on Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.
Jackman announced last March 2015 that he was planning to retire from the mutant role after ‘Wolverine 3’. Although plot details remain under wraps, it was speculated that the new film will follow the Old Man Logan storyline from the original Marvel comic books.
Meanwhile, actor Johnathon Schaech admitted that he always wanted to play Wolverine one way or another during a panel at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest. According to Cinema Blend, the 46-year old actor was quoted saying, "If I could play any character, it'd be Wolverine. I feel like he's why I wanted to start acting."
Ironically, Schaech is best known for his role as the legendary bounty hunter Jonah Hex on The CW’s action-adventure television series ‘Legends of Tomorrow’. The show was developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kresiberg, and Phil Klemmer and is intended as a spin-off series for DC’s ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’.
Schaech also appeared on several full-feature films including Jocelyn Moorhouse’s drama film ‘How To Make An American Quilt’, Tom Hanks’ musical comedy-drama film ‘That Thing You Do!’, John Erick Dowdle’s supernatural-horror film ‘Quarantine’, and John Lussenhop’s crime-thriller film ‘Takers’, and Brian A. Miller’s gangster thriller film ‘The Prince’.
It was previously revealed that Jackman is set to exit the ‘X-Men’ franchise after his final outing on the upcoming third installment in the ‘Wolverine’ standalone cinematic series. It is possible that Fox will introduce Wolverine’s teenage female clone X-23 to replace Logan in later adaptations.
‘Wolverine 3’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film directed by James Mangold and written by Michael Green and David James Kelley. It is produced by Simon Kinberg, Hutch Parker, Lauren Shuler Donner, and co-produced by Kurt Williams. Joseph M. Caracciolo Jr., Stan Lee, and Josh McLaglen are executive producing.
The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on March 3, 2017.
