‘Wonder Woman’ producer said that the upcoming film starring Gal Gadot will have a much different tone than ‘Batman v Superman’. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman is named a UN ambassador for women and girls and will be officially sworn in on October 21.
During an interview with Variety, producer Deborah Snyder revealed that Patty Jenkins’ upcoming film in the DCEU will be different in tone than Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. Critics were quick to disapprove of the dark tone in most of the DCEU films including the recent ‘Suicide Squad’.
Snyder said, “‘Wonder Woman’ is very different in tone and style than ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’… We pick directors who have their own points of view, so that each of our films will have their own personality.”
President of DC Entertainment and president of Warner Bros. Consumer Products added, “There’s a misconception that DC or [parent studio] Warner Bros. has made a conscious decision for all our movies to be darker or edgier… That’s not the case. Fans of the DC universe know that there are characters, like Batman, who are darker, but there are others like Wonder Woman, who are hopeful, optimistic leaders, and the tone of this film represents that.”
Gal Gadot is set reprise her role as Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman. She is joined by Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as General Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta.
When asked to address Wonder Woman’s possible bisexuality, Gadot replied, “It’s not something we’ve explored. It never came to the table, but when you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense. In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it’s not about that. She’s a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts.”
Meanwhile, according to The Guardian, the United Nations (UN) is set to officially name the iconic superheroine as an honorary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls during at an event at the UN Headquarters on October 21, 2016. The ceremony will be attended by Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Nelson, and a other guests.
The event is also set to mark the launch of the UN’s landmark campaign that supports the Sustainable Development Goal #5 of promoting gender equality and empowerment among women and girls.
‘Wonder Woman’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy intended as the fourth installment in DCEU. The film also marks the first standalone film to feature a female superhero in the cinematic franchise. It is produced by DC Entertainment, Atlas Entertainment, Cruel & Unusual Films, and Warner Bros.
The film is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017.
