German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French president Francois Hollande, Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded their Normandy four talks in Berlin after five hours of closed-door meeting. Expectations were high from the talks since Putin canceled his visit to France after criticism from French President Hollande. Though the Agenda was Minsk agreement, it was well expected that the talks would extend to Syria.
The mood after the meeting clearly indicated that the talks have failed. Mr. Putin, speaking at a press conference after the meet spoke of the failure. He said, "We agreed on a few, unfortunately just a few humanitarian issues," Putin said. "Unfortunately, there was not much progress on the issue, but [the sides] expressed readiness to solve humanitarian problems.” He added that all participants agreed on the importance of Minsk agreement. With regard to Syria, Mr. Putin said that Russia is ready to extend the ceasefire at Aleppo.
All the participants failed to give a joint conference, French President Hollande accused Russia of war crimes.
