The iPhone X Mini has been abandoned by Apple after rumors swelled last year that the device was being made behind closed doors. The whispers started from Olixar, a phone-case manufacturer that has a history of accurately predicting the release date of Apple’s products.
Olixar even made cases for the iPhone X Mini as they were utterly convinced that the device will hit the market soon. However, Olixar announced months later that Apple has canceled production of the smartphone due to unspecified reasons, Business Times reported.
One of the factors being considered why Apple decided to ax the iPhone X Mini is that it wanted to create a complementary device that would be pair with the iPhone X. This endeavor resulted in the creation of the iPhone XS Max. But the disappointing sales performance of Apple last year spells that their maneuver was ill-advised.
According to Financial Review, Apple is losing its foothold against Huawei due to the cheaper products offered by the latter. Indeed, the price difference can sometimes be as big as $300 or even more, spurring people to transfer their loyalty to the Chinese company. Apple could’ve slowed this bleeding down by appealing to the mid-range market through the creation of devices like the iPhone X Mini.
It also doesn’t help Apple that their devices don’t offer groundbreaking hardware features compared to its competitors. While the company’s flagships are still superior to Huawei’s own, the technological gap isn’t enough to justify the price difference mentioned above. But even though this is the case, Apple has yet to fully lose the battle against Huawei. If devices like iPhone X Mini is pushed out the door, the Cupertino-based tech giant can still snatch some of the mid-range revenue of Huawei and bring some users back into its fold.
After all, Apple’s brand is still one of the most popular in the world and has even become a social currency among users. As for the fate of the iPhone X Mini, it appears that Apple doesn’t have any plans for the device just yet. If it has any future plans for it all.
