The latest and final downloadable content for the hit action/adventure game Dark Souls 3 is almost out, with its scheduled release date of October 24th. However, an error caused the DLC to become available to players early, which caused a frenzy among gamers to start downloading.
Fans of Bandai Namco’s third installment to its dark and gritty franchise are eagerly awaiting the chance to dive back into the game and play “Ashes of Ariandel.” The DLC is set in a frozen landscape within a painting that could be found all the way back to the first Dark Souls game. That’s why, when it became actually available for download on the Xbox store, gamers were quick to get their hands on it.
Publishers like Gamespot also tried downloading the DLC themselves and confirmed that this was indeed the case. All players needed to do was to search for the DLC and hit the install key. Naturally, this was not what the publishers wanted, since it wasn’t supposed to come out until the 24th.
The publication actually reached out to Bandai Namco to get a response regarding the development. Their reply was a confirmation of the event and that it occurred due to a logistical error.
"Due to a logistical error, the Dark Souls III Ashes of Ariandel DLC was made available for download for a short period of time for Xbox One players,” the publisher said. “We have since corrected this scheduling error and the Dark Souls III Ashes of Ariandel DLC will now be available on October 24, 2016 at 3 PM PDT for Steam players and October 24, 2016 at 9 PM PDT for console players. We regret any confusion this may have caused to players and Dark Souls III fans; we look forward to seeing everyone within the world of Ariandel."
The development actually started on Reddit, where users started posting that they were able to download the DLC before the release date. Some shared photos of their character standing in the frozen lands within the painting while others who had Season Passes took screenshots of their accounts where the option to download the content was already available.
