‘Moana’ star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson takes being a demigod too seriously on his first meeting with Moana in the new footage released by Disney. Meanwhile, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s soundtrack for the film gets its official release date for November.
According to Coming Soon.net, the new footage released by Disney shows Johnson’s Maui meeting Auli‘i Cravalho’s Moana for the very first time. It seems that their new partnership (and eventual friendship) does not go very well as Maui gets cocky presuming that Moana wanted an autograph for her oar.
In the new clip, the legendary demigod interrupts the chieftain’s daughter as she attempts to introduce herself to him. He cuts her short insisting that she say his titles properly.
Cravalho’s Moana is an adventurous and free-spirited young girl descended from a long line of navigators. The 15-year old actress admitted during a previous interview that she didn’t officially audition to get the lead role. She revealed, "The casting woman who was going through those auditions was the same casting director for Disney's ["Moana"]. She looked at my audition and the rest is history."
Joining Cravalho and Johnson in the voice cast are Temuera Morrison as Moana’s overprotective father Chief Tui of Motunui Island, Nicole Scherzinger as Moana’s mother Sina, Jemaine Clement as the evil crab Tamatoa, Alan Tudyk as Moana’s pet rooster Hei Hei, and Rachel House as Moana’s grandmother Tala.
The film follows Moana as she sets sail to a fabled island with the help of Maui in the quest to fulfill her destiny and find her identity. She is faced with obstacles along the way and even encounters monsters on her action-packed ocean journey. Moana is considered the very first Polynesian Disney princess and is one of the studio’s most anticipated films.
Meanwhile, Lin-Manuel Miranda’s soundtrack for the upcoming animated adventure film has officially set a release date. According to Playbill, it is scheduled to bow on November 18, 2016 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.
The award-winning actor, writer, and composer is best known for creating as well as starring in Broadway musicals ‘In the Heights’ and ‘Hamilton’. At the age of 36 years old, he already managed to garner multiple accolades including a Pultizer Prize, an Emmy Award, three Tony Awards, and two Grammy Awards.
According to ABC News, Miranda talked about working on the new Disney film. He said, “I didn’t know if [Johnson] could sing so I went on YouTube to sort of find any examples of The Rock singing and what I found was this super cut when he was a bad guy wrestler… He would take out a guitar and taunt whatever town he was in."
He continued, “The fun thing about writing for The Rock is he’s so charming you can give him Gaston-level arrogant lyrics and it’s still charming.”
‘Moana’ is an upcoming action-adventure animated film directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. It is produced by Osnat Shurer and executive produced by John Lasseter. It is scheduled to be released on November 23, 2016.
