Fans have been expecting that there is enough story to allow the release of “Steven Universe” season 6. At this rate, however, it might not premiere until 2019. Based on the recent events in the animated series, some followers predict that the next installment might focus on the healing of all the corrupted gems.
In a previous report, several clues were compiled and they suggested that Cartoon Network has already given “Steven Universe” season 6 the green light. But fans expect there could still be one or two more episodes for season 5.
The series is still on a months-long hiatus. Season 5's episode 25 has not yet aired on TV while there is still no word on the release of episode 26. In this case, and with only a few months remaining in 2018, it becomes more possible that “Steven Universe” season 6 will come out sometime in 2019.
Just when some thought that showrunner Rebecca Sugar was preparing to end the series for good, the writers dropped one major plot twist. It was revealed that Pink Diamond was not actually shattered. Since this storyline was revealed in the latter part of season 5, it is speculated to be further explored in “Steven Universe” season 6.
Blue Diamond and Yellow Diamond — with help from White Diamond — were out for revenge against the Gems on Earth after thinking that Pink Diamond was completely shattered. It was later revealed that Pink is not totally gone and existed as Rose Quartz. And this is most likely the build-up for “Steven Universe” season 6.
After learning the truth, Blue Diamond started caring for Steven and, along with Yellow Diamond, regretted their actions. But they found a way to make things right after Steven explained that the Gems were not obliterated and were only corrupted. So in season 5 episode 25, they started trying to heal the corrupted Gems.
Unfortunately, the power of Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond, and Steven/Pink are not enough to make a permanent cure. So it is likely that the search for total healing will continue and conclude in “Steven Universe” season 6. In the latest episode, the three characters concluded that one step in getting a permanent remedy will require White Diamond’s help.
This is why they traveled to the Homeworld in “Legs From Here to Homeworld” episode, which also marked White Diamond’s debut appearance. However, the Homeworld ruler did not seem very cooperative. Will she ever get on board with Steven’s plan to save the Gems on Earth? Fans will have to wait until “Steven Universe” season 6 to find out the answer to that.
