‘Alien 5’ is a planned installment in the ‘Alien’ franchise. ‘Aliens’ actor Michael Biehn admitted that he is confident with director Niell Blomkamp’s project pushing through. He also suggested that the film will feature a new Newt played by an actress who closely resembles Jennifer Lawrence.

According to Games Radar, Biehn expressed his optimism over Blomkamp’s planned sequel in the ‘Alien’ franchise. Although the project continues to be on unsteady ground since its announcement, the 60-year old actor is convinced that it will push through and that he will be in it.

Biehn is best known for his work on several science-fiction and action-thriller films including James Cameron’s 1984 film ‘The Terminator’ and his 1989 film ‘The Abyss’ as well as Michael Bay’s ‘The Rock’, Carl Schultz’ ‘The Seventh Sign’, Brian Trenchard-Smith’s ‘Megiddo: The Omega Code 2’, and Christian Duguay’s ‘The Art of War’.

However, Biehn’s most notable performance on the big screen is as Corporal Dwayne Hicks in the 1986 release ‘Aliens’, where he was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actor. The science-fiction and horror film was directed by Cameron and was intended as the sequel to the 1979 film ‘Alien’ directed by Ridley Scott.

‘Aliens’ was considered one of the best films in the science-fiction genre. It gained critical acclaim and was nominated for seven Academy Awards. It grossed $183.31 million worldwide on an estimated production budget of $17 million as stated on The Numbers.

During an interview with Forbes, Biehn recalled getting rejected for a part in Blomkamp’s planned sequel. According to JoBlo, Biehn said, “I got a call a few years ago from Neill Blomkamp and my agent say he wants to put me in his new movie, he was interested in me playing the antagonist and could I film myself doing a scene for him – it didn’t feel like an audition. I thought I did a pretty good job but I got a call from my agent saying I didn’t get the part and I was surprised because I thought he wanted me to be in it.”

He admitted, “I was disappointed, I’ve been disappointed before when I didn’t get a part and with things like Avatar and the third Alien movie, but the next thing I hear is that Sigourney Weaver is doing the movie. I looked it up on IMDB and she was doing the part that I guess I was auditioning for! I was like, ‘Sigourney, you’re killing me!’”

Biehn added, “I don’t know when it’s going to happen but I know it’s going to happen and I know I’m going to be in it and there’s going to be a new Newt, she’s going to be about 26 or 27 and looks a lot like Jennifer Lawrence to me but I don’t know. Maybe there’ll be a passing of whatever and then the franchise can move on so they can make more money because that’s what it’s all about.”

‘Alien 5’ is a planned science-fiction and horror film directed by Niell Blomkamp. It is intended as the fifth installment in the iconic ‘Alien’ franchise. An official release date is yet to be confirmed.
