Season 2 of Batwoman will no longer have Kate Kane donning the batsuit. Instead The CW has opted to have a new character taking over as Batwoman.
Last month, it was announced that Ruby Rose will not be reprising her role Kate Kane aka Batwoman in the second season of The CW series.
Neither Rose or The CW confirmed the reason for the Australian actor's departure. Instead, both had thanked each other with The CW thanking Rose for her contribution to the Batwoman while Rose also expressed her gratefulness for being given the opportunity.
At that time, The CW had assured a season 2 for Batwoman and said that they will be recasting the role that Rose is vacating. The network also said that they would favor another member of the LGBTQ community for the role.
Kate Kane/Batwoman was an out member of the LGBTQ community and the show made history for featuring a superhero who is a lesbian.
According to Deadline, the new character will be named Ryan Wilder based on a casting notice that they got hold of.
And, The CW will continue with having a lesbian superhero as Ryan Wilder will also be a lesbian with performers, who are members of the LGBTQ community, encouraged to submit for the role.
However, it seems that their gender preference is the only thing common between Kate Kane and Ryan Wilder as the new character has been described as nothing like the first woman who wore the batsuit.
Ryan Wilder is described as untamed and messy but likeable and a bit on the goofy side.
The change in character will not surprise many superhero comic fans as this is not the first time that it has happened.
The role of Robin has been held by several characters, also Batgirl. So, even with a new character, Batwoman season 2 will still be something to look forward to.
