Floyd Mayweather continues to tease his return to the ring despite the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Aside from remaining in his boxing gym in Las Vegas, the 43-year-old undefeated boxer has also teased on his Instagram that he is traveling to Tokyo to discuss something for the remainder of 2020 with RIZIN and his partners.
Mayweather had come out of retirement for the second time by defeating Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition match as Rizin's event for New Year's Eve in 2018.
However, it is very unlikely for Mayweather to travel to Japan because of the travel restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19.
However, talks of Mayweather preparing for a return to the ring was seemingly confirmed earlier this month after Denis Doughlin, his sparring partner, revealed that they have been doing sparring sessions late at night.
Doughlin told Sky Sports that Mayweather had called him at 1 a.m. and told him to go over his gym as he wanted to do a sparring session.
According to Doughlin, Floyd Weather is very capable of making another return to the ring.
Doughlin, though said that Mayweather had not told him anything about making a comeback, that all he said was that he wanted to spar.
He added that they sparred for three rounds for a total of 30 minutes and that he was very impressed with Mayweather’s excellent condition.
According to the pro boxer, Mayweather could very well make a comeback as he is still very capable of it and that personally, he would want another Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines bout.
However, whoever Mayweather chooses to fight, it would still be a huge comeback, and people would still flock to watch it, said Doughlin.
Mayweather himself has been vocal about returning to the ring for exhibition matches that would entail a mega deal.
There have been rumors that Mayweather’s team is in talks with Rizin about being in another fight in Japan. Those talks, however, seemed to have been stalled by COVID-19, although Mayweather continues to hype it.
Whatever the truth is, another Floyd Mayweather comeback would be much appreciated not only by his fans but the entire boxing community as well.
