George Clooney and Amal Clooney were some of the few people invited at the wedding ceremony of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in May 2018. About a year later, the Clooneys are still showing support for their friend, Markle, in several meaningful ways.
Various documentaries and books have detailed how the late Princess Diana became one of the most followed, non-celebrity personalities by paparazzi everywhere she goes. Since then, members of the British royal family have also been subjected to heavy media attention. Markle experienced the same even when she was just reportedly dating Prince Harry a few years back and George recently condemned such treatment toward the Duchess of Sussex, which he said continues to this day.
Amal’s husband recently commented at how the press is treating Markle, who is around a couple of months away from giving birth to her and Prince Harry’s first child. George likened Markle’s situation with Princess Diana telling Who magazine that the former is being “vilified and chased.” The veteran actor explained, “I do want to say, they’re just chasing Meghan Markle everywhere. She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant and she has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself.”
While George Clooney has publicly spoken and defended Markle, it also seems like human rights lawyer Amal Clooney maintains a good friendship with the Duchess. It was recently reported that Amal was one of the attendees at Markle’s baby shower.
Reports have it that Markle’s baby shower took place at a hotel in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. It was also claimed that George and Amal went all-out in supporting Markle’s baby shower.
Aside from an actual present for the royal baby, George Clooney and Amal Clooney reportedly took care of Markle’s flight expenses from New York back to London in a private jet. It is estimated that the travel costs saved the Duchess around £100,000 or around $132,000 for the one-way flight.
